37% of US Sewers are polluting rivers and lakes.

As cities have grown rapidly across the nation, many have neglected infrastructure projects and paved over green spaces that once absorbed rainwater. That has contributed to sewage backups into more than 400,000 basements and spills into thousands of streets, according to data collected by state and federal officials.

BResearch now underway is based on ocean buoy generators. As ocean swells hit the buoy, electrical coils create electricity.

Kentucky National Guard troops deploy on Agriculture mission.

Members of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard deployed recently to Afghanistan as the Agriculture Development team. The teams main mission is to teach the people of Afghanistan to become self-sufficient and be able to create their own agricultural marketplace by teaching them modern farming methods. Here are some photos my friend has taken during his deployment.

Anti-Pollutant Houseplants

Here is a list of plants to put in your home to use as an air purifier rather than purchasing a machine to do it for you. My favorite is the Christmas Cactus. My grandmother has had one in her kitchen windowsill for the last couple of years.

My connection to Mountaintop Removal.

After entering my zipcode into the little blue box widget on my blog (at the top under my gravel pic). The site ilovemountains.org sent me to this site showing me my electricity provider and their connection to mountaintop removal by their use of coal. Click on the photo to see an example.

Ephermal art using dogs and hay and a camcorder and water and music at a pond.

I used this song to help soundtrack my ephermal art project. I wanted to use different textures as well as experiment with water surface tension and reflection. My dogs played a big part in this video helping me not have to get into the water very much to create different movements across the surface.

Post Typography: LEED

Post Typography is a couple of Baltimore based dudes who have a design firm. I try and keep up with their portfolio and really enjoy their work. Recently they worked with the U.S. Green Building Council. Here's an example of some of their work. Click on the picture to view some more.

According to their site:
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

Ford finds buyer for Wixom plant, will be used as renewable energy park

click on the logo to read more

Ford's abandoned plant in Wixom, Michigan, is getting a new lease on life. The factory originally opened way back in 1957 during the glory years of the American automotive industry and it encompasses a massive 320 acres (4.7 million square-feet). By the fall of 2011, the Wixom plant won't really have much to do with cars, becoming instead the largest renewable energy park in the United States.

Australians have overtaken Americans as the world's biggest individual producers of carbon dioxide, which is blamed for global warming, a risk consultancy says.

Snake with foot found in China

"I woke up and heard a strange scratching sound. I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall using his claw," said Mrs Duan of Suining, southwest China.

This doesn't have anything to do with sustainability but I think it is cute.

Cement Stream

Last week when I was walking back to the parking lot I noticed this stream of dried concrete heading toward this drainage ditch. I'm sure a little bit of it went down the drain unfortunately.
This could've been easily avoided if the people working down there would've had some better situational awareness.

Hiking Treasures

I found a couple of old bottles while hiking in Seneca Park yesterday. I'm fairly certain these are old Budweiser bottles, both of them have the Anheuser-Busch logo on them. Anyhow, I think they're cute. They had been there for a while I reckon. I've never seen any Budweiser bottles in this shape before.

Sunday Stroll

The sabbath was freakishly beautiful this weekend. Some of my cousins came up and I heard my Aunt Cathy mention that she would like to go for a walk. I agreed to go on such an adventure and decided to take a couple of plastic grocery bags with us to fill with trash. My Pop tried to give me a large garbage bag and I said we'd be alright with the little bags. I totally underestimated the amount of garbage on our road. The plan was to walk a half-mile out and then turn around and come home. Both of the bags were full before we even reached a quarter-mile.

"Some Asshole really likes Rally's," Cathy said.

Someone out there finishes their fast food meal about 50 feet before our driveway and pitches it out the window. Thanks Scumbag!

Next Sunday I'm taking the Garbage Bag in tow.

Watermelon Juice = Ethanol Fuel

Leftover watermelons from harvests can be converted into clean ethanol fuel. The leftovers from America's farmland can create up to 2.5 million gallons for our own personal car machines, nautical vessels, and even aeroplanes.
